VAMPR x APRA AMCOS: How songwriters get paid

By admin

APRA x Vampr

We’re really happy to announce that we’ve recently brought APRA AMCOS on board as a sponsor of Vampr.

So what’s APRA AMCOS, and why should you care?

APRA AMCOS is a Performance Rights Organization (PRO) that collects royalties for Australian and New Zealand songwriters when their songs are performed, broadcast, streamed or, sold as a download or hardcopy. This is the major revenue stream for composers.

“To have them support Vampr and recognise our community as a legitimate creative space for musicians and writers globally, is a massive feather in our cap,” says co-founder Baz Palmer, musician and long-time beneficiary of APRA AMCOS royalties.

Every developed country in the world has a PRO (sometimes two or three) and we can’t stress enough to our songwriting members outside of Australia and New Zealand the importance of researching who your local society is and registering your works with them. Otherwise you may be leaving significant money on the table!

Back to APRA AMCOS for a moment. It’s free to sign up, and once you do, APRA AMCOS can give businesses permission to play, perform, copy, record or make available your music, collect payments from businesses for this use of music, and pay you royalties for identified use of your music. APRA AMCOS also exists to support their members. So when you become a member, you’ll also join a music community of over 103,000 songwriters and composers.

“Josh and Baz know first-hand the power of collaboration, and particularly the value of connecting to global networks. APRA AMCOS is proud to support Vampr’s innovative platform that helps our members to connect with fellow creators wherever they are in the world,” says Dean Ormston, APRA AMCOS Chief Executive.
